This is the running timeline of Backflip Obby Escape’s evolution. Use it to see how the game grew, to catch up after a break, or to understand why a mechanic exists. Entries are newest-first and focus on the changes that actually affect how you play. For the freshest details, pair this with the Latest Update page.
June 2026 — Double-Backflip & Combo Counter
The defining modern update. It introduced:
- The double-backflip, a second mid-air flip that made the longest gaps clearable and became required in later sections.
- The Combo Counter, rewarding consecutive flawless landings with bonus coins at the end of a section.
Together these reshaped both movement and the coin economy, and they are the reason returning players sometimes find old gaps suddenly demanding. If you only catch up on one patch, make it this one.
Earlier additions — sections and cosmetics
Before the double-backflip era, updates fleshed out the six-section structure and the cosmetic system:
- The full themed run — Neon City, Sky-High Towers, Jungle Ruins, Ice Cavern, Volcanic Core and the Backflip Arena.
- The Flip-Orb and speed burst systems that fuel movement.
- The Skins & Cosmetics shop funded by coins.
- Hidden content such as the frozen-waterfall shortcut in Ice Cavern.
Core launch — the backflip obby
At its foundation, the game launched around a single idea: escape themed sections using perfectly timed backflips. That core has never changed — every later update built on top of the timing-based flip rather than replacing it, which is why the fundamentals you learn in How to Play remain valid across versions.
How updates and codes connect
Many patches arrive with codes to celebrate the launch, so update days are prime time to check for new rewards. Codes expire quickly, so we update the Active Codes page the same day they go live.
Coming back after a long break? Read newest-first: start with the Double-Backflip Update, then the Latest Update. Knowing the second flip exists is the fastest way to feel competent again.
We keep this timeline current as new patches land. For the deep dive on the most impactful feature, see the Double-Backflip Update.
